Independence Day

posted July 4th, 2005 by Shannon

Well, it’s July 4th and we stayed home. I started this weekend out as the July 4th Grinch. It’s just not the 4th if you don’t watch a parade and spend the day at the park. But it turned out to be a pretty good day, except for the fact that I’m recovering from a cold.

George decided he wanted to smoke a brisket today. He started the fire early this morning and cooked it ALL day long. He inflated our small swimming pool AND our big inflatable couch for the kids to play with. We ended the evening by eating yummy brisket and ice cream and then letting the kids watch the New York City fireworks show on TV before they peacefully drifted off to sleep. (Ha!)

We found 11 Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars on our parsley Saturday and we moved them inside today. My goal is to actually watch one make his chrysalis this year.

  1. Oh, that does sound like a fun day. It was just a little bit hard for me too since I have gone to the Snyder 4th of July parade & park activities for the past 20 years. But it just isn’t the same without any kids or grandkids in the parade.
