How do you spell ‘Mike’?

posted November 14th, 2007 by Shannon

The twin girls that live next door came over to play this afternoon. At one point they were playing with the paper, scissors, glue stick, markers, etc. One of the twins asked me how to spell ‘Dear’. Then she asked how to spell ‘Mike’. Hmmm, okay. Then she showed me her creation. A note, for Mike, cut into a heart shape, which read:

I like you
and you like me.

Wow. Are you serious? Is it time for that already? This is the first grade, people! Can I shelter my daughter just a little bit longer? Please?

  1. Is Mike one of the boys that lives at the end of your block that kept hanging around in front of the twins house? Yes, six is too early for this. I had little of that when I taught Kindergarten but it has been 11 years since I left that age group. I say continue to shield my grandkids until they are a few years older!

Cool new look to your blog! I would like to see the area that lists who has made recent comments to your various blog posts added back but I may be the only one that used that.

  2. I don’t think Mike is one of the boys down the street, but I’m not positive on that. We added the recent comments block back in so you should see that now.

  3. Wow! I know you are not ready for that. I thinkg you are indeed sheltering her from that with homeschooling. I bet these girls are influenced at school by friends who have older sisters and are into boys.

I like the new blog look. I need to do something to mine. It is so boring.

  4. I’m with you Shannon! This is getting way out of hand.

Cason has already had a boy try to hold her hand, talk of her being someone’s girlfriend (so I heard from another parent) and a marriage proposal this year (two different boys). I’ve tried to not make a big deal about it, fearing I would make things worse, but when she told me Jayson wanted to marry her, I just about flipped out! Without trying to show my complete panic as a mother, I calmly asked how she felt about that. She told him we would be moving far away, so that wouldn’t work. LOL!! (I’m so glad we’re planning to move 1 1/2 years from now!!) And by the way, she was not interested in holding the boys hand, thank the Lord!!!

It’s really hard to swim upstream isn’t it?

  5. A wedding proposal? Now that is crazy!
