Huggles, Sudoku, and Oolong Tea

posted January 15th, 2006 by George

I had a very nice afternoon today. After church and lunch, I offered to let Emily spend her nap time out on the back porch swing. The weather here was just perfect. Sunny with a cool breeze. A wonderful day to be outside. So, I decided to join her. Shannon and Nathan were napping in the house, so out we went. After getting Emily all set up on the swing, I headed back in to brew up some Oolong Tea and to grab my book of Sudoku puzzles. The plan was to get in some huggles (a term coined by Shannon that’s a combination of hugs and cuddles), drink my tea, and work on a puzzle or two while Emily slept. All went well except the sleeping part. I don’t know if it was the weather or my being there, but Emily never slept. After about an hour and a half, I asked Emily if she would like to try a puzzle. I explained the rules and then we got to work. She did great with the puzzle. She picked it up well, and by the end was getting several of the numbers by herself.

Anyway, it was a very special time between a dad and his wonderful daughter. Hope you all had a great day as well.

  1. Hey George,

Thank you for posting about your special afternoon with your daughter. It does my heart good to hear such a sweet story. Continue to cherish the days and many more to come in the future. BUT, let me tell you….the days will pass all to quickly and you will be walking Emily down the aisle before you know it. I am sure you have already started praying for your children’s future mates. May you and Shannon be as blesses as Britt and I to have each of our children marry such fine Christians who love God and love our daughters dearly. We are very proud of you and Shannon!

  2. George,
Sounds great. We missed you today!
    Paul
