Terrible Things!

“Awww, Mom! You’re just saying terrible things to me!”

– Said Tiger, after I insisted he put on clean underwear for the day.

Fire Safety Day

posted February 29th, 2008 by Shannon

Yesterday was Fire Safety Day at our house. We listened to the smoke alarms so we’d know what they sounded like. We practiced leaving the house and going outside. We learned about calling 9-1-1. And we even got to meet some nice firemen who graciously stopped by our house just for Fire Safety Day!

That makes it sound so much calmer than it actually was! Fire Safety Day was not a planned event. Nor was it a calm event. We are all fine. There was no fire. Just a faulty alarm. But since they are all tied in together, they ALL went off. Any idea how loud that is? I had a headache for the rest of the day to remind me.

Book Meme

posted February 6th, 2008 by Shannon

My friend Jen had this book meme posted on her blog. Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages.)
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

Our current read-aloud from Sonlight was the closest book:

“Oh, no;” returned the soldier; “I have never seen him. But I spoke to him as he sat behind his screen, and gave him your message. He says he will grant you an audience, if you so desire; but each one of you must enter his presence alone, and he will admit but one each day.”
– The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Who do I tag?
Jen cheated on this part, so I am too. I’m not going to tag anybody. If you want to participate, go right ahead! Just leave me a comment so I know to go take a look. Thanks!

Definitely NERDY!

I took the test twice, so we’ll take the average and say I’m a mid-level nerd:

I made George take the quiz also. His score:

I am nerdier than 80% of all people. Are you a nerd? Click here to find out!

Christmas: Part C

posted December 30th, 2007 by Shannon

The final part of our Christmas celebration was at my parent’s house. Our kids have a cousin on this side of the family now. She’s such a cutie!

Christmas: Part B

Next we headed off to George’s parent’s home. This was their largest gathering yet, with George’s brother Justin bringing a wife!

Welcome to our Zoo!

posted December 24th, 2007 by Shannon

Lions Kats and tigers and bears! Oh my!
George and I have wanted to change our domain name for years but it has taken us this long to come up with an alternative that we both liked. We (finally) decided on one this year. Life around our house can get quite wild at times and we do, in fact, all have blue eyes.

So, there you have it: it’s a BlueEyedZoo around here. Enjoy our new look, change your bookmarks, and check out our About page to see what we’ll be calling our kiddos now.

E’s Dance Performance

posted December 21st, 2007 by George

For E’s fall dance recital, the class performed to Christmas songs at a local assisted living center. Many of the residents really enjoyed the performance and visiting with the girls afterward.

Here she is (on the far right) tap dancing to “Go Tell it on the Mountain”.

Next she performs her ballet dance to “The Coventry Carrol”.

Note from Shan: Because of Thanksgiving travels, it had been 2 weeks since these girls practiced their dance together and we ran out of time to practice before the performance. Regardless, we’re still so proud of E. She had tons of fun, brought smiles to lots of faces, and her confidence is improving as well.
